Patient Handling

This course provides staff with best practise training when engaged in the handling of patients in a clinical or home environment ensuring that employers meet their obligations under the Health & Safety Legislation.

Course Duration: 1 Day

    • Legislation & Load assessment

    • Danger of untrained methods

    • Principles of levers and law of motion

    • Anatomy

    • Practice in safe handling

    • Pushing / Pulling / Loading

    • Sitting patient up in bed

    • Patient movement in bed using sliding sheets

    • Sitting Patient to edge of bed

    • Standing patient / assisted walking

    • Transferring patient from bed to chair using various methods

    • Trolley Transfers

  • All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

    Refresher course is recommended every 2 years.
